First time trial on a Solaris 200 film. Vivid colours seem to come out nice and deep, probably good for outdoor shots on sunny days. Got another roll of this film so I should do some more experiments.

INDEN-YA: Deer Skin meets Lacquer

Just learned about the INDEN-YA "印傳屋" -the Japanese craftsmanship, who has been making beautiful leather crafts in Japan for over 400 years. What's so unique about it is they developed their original technique for applying lacquer to deer skin to form patterns like these above images they introduce in their webpage. The website is full of interesting information on the craftsmanship, although it's only in Japanese language it's worth a visit! It has lots of great images with great graphic designs and the website is really well done. There is an English introduction page so it should help!

Naoshima - an "art island"

Naoshima is a small island of Kagawa prefecture in Japan which has been promoted as an "art island". It surely is an island full of art and is a really interesting place to visit. You will be greeted by a huge red "pumpkin" - a sculpture by Yayoi Kusama, and the Minamidera House project "Backside of the Moon" by James Turrell and the Chichu Art Museum by Tadao Ando are the must-sees. (They don't let us take photos of the museum even from the outside so here are some images from the museum catalogue)

I'm so wanting to go back there.

How he's done it, I don't know. His work has lives, I can almost see them moving. Just stood there looking up with my knees shaking, it is hard to describe how I felt in words. Gaudi, I see him living in his works.
