Tokyo's coffee boom doesn't seem to stop and there has been so many new places opening here and there every month (actually I just heard another new place opened in Shibuya on Saturday!). I've been feeling I need to do an update post for my Tokyo Coffee Guide but here is a quick one with my instagram pics for now! 

Two new good ones are now in my shop neighborhood which instantly became my regular coffee stops en route to the little shoppe. 

One is pictured above IMA Cafe produced by Obscura Coffee Roasters which is inside a beautiful IMA Concept Store that opened in April on the third floor of AXIS in Roppoingi (only a few minutes walk from my shop ;) ). Staff are really kind and friendly and I just love the beautiful light that comes through this space in the afternoon. Also it's great that they are open till 10pm, not that I want to drink coffee late at night so often but when I feel like a good cup of coffee after good dinner with good friends it's a perfect spot for it, and it's not so easy to find a lovely and quiet anywhere to find in this area on a weekend evening. 

Another one from this area is BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR COFFEE KIOSK at Akasaka Ark Hills B1 in South Tower. It's actually a part of a new and wonderful Fukushimaya Natural Foods Market (now my big favourite) and food they serve at the coffee kiosk here comes from this premier supermarket. It's connected to the Roppongi 1-chome station on Namboku Line (Tokyo Metro) so is very easily accessed.

I always wished someone will open a new coffee place in my home neighbourhood (Gakugeidaigaku/Yutenji/Meguro area) and now they have! Streamer Coffee Company has just opened their fourth and new (and their biggest) store in Gakugeidaigaku. Coffee was good though it was slightly disappointing that it was not hot enough for me. But I will certainly be going back soon. 

I never knew about this place called Switch Coffee Tokyo that opened in Meguro not long ago until I saw it on @luismendo 's instagram, once I saw it I thought I have to try and I'm glad I did!

So now I have two new favourites for both my home and shop neighbourhood and I'm quiet happy about it :) 

But I must say AMAMERIA Espresso which had been the best coffee I could get closest to home for a long time would still stay on top of my list. It's not such a fancy or hipster kind of place at all but is friendly and is loved by locals, many older people are also enjoying coffee here and creating a kind of kissaten like atmosphere especially on a weekday, which makes this place different from other new ones and that is why I like it I guess.

I feel like some really good coffee now. I haven't had one for a while I realize. I thought I'd do another coffee post, most of these photos and cafe infos have been shared here before but now you can see them all in one post :)


01. cafe ohanaya - one of my favourite cafes in Jiyugaoka. they do lovely lunch using fresh vegetables from Kamakura. Italian style food and coffee, good selection of organic wines. Vey cosy and lovely but mostly packed with people especially busy hours like 12-3pm.

02. OMOTESANDO KOFFEE CLOSED

03. Cafe 6-chome
Not that the coffee is amazing but the atmosphere and the food is really good.

04. Cafe ikanika
You might have heard too much of it here if you are reading my blog for a while...

05. Amameria Espresso
Musashikoyama may not be the area many of who visit Tokyo would go to, but they make great coffee.
If you are staying in Claska, it would be nice to take a morning walk to Musashikoyama (about 20mins) and also you can take a lovely forest walk in the Rinshi-no-mori Park on the way!

06. Lo Spazio
Not the best, but one of not so many places to get Italian style espresso in the Gakugeidaigaku area.

08. Rose Bakery
They now have 4 cafes in Tokyo! I've only been to the one in Marunouchi and Ginza but Kichijoji one looks really nice.

10. Coffee at Home
We enjoy hand drip coffee on the weekend. We buy fresh coffee beans from Voila Coffee in Kagoshima, actually many of the great coffee places in Tokyo buy beans from them. They don't ship internationally but if live in Tokyo I recommend shopping from their online store :)


So, I feel like some really good coffee even more now.

My latest favourite lunch and coffee place in Nakameguro is TASTE & SENSE which is tucked inside a lovely store 1LDK aparments. I love taking a walk to this place from my house when I feel like having a good cup of coffee :)

Rose Bakery opened their third shop in Tokyo at the much talked-about (over 300 people lined up to get here on their opening day apparently!) Dover Street Market Ginza last March, after many months I finally got the chance to get there last month. (and finally posting these here)

If you are a fashion guru or just love COMME des GARÇONS you will really enjoy this place - 6 floors full of latest clothing! It's more like a clothing museum really, it's amazing. Finishing your tour at the Rose Bakery on the top floor will give you a good relief, their carrot cake is always the best!

Also, right behind the DSMG you will find beer bar lupulin  where you can enjoy great Japanese craft beer (Microbrewery)! (See this post for more info about this beer bar)

One afternoon during the rainy season, I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Hanna and Jukka from Finland.
I had known Hanna from this exhibition I went to 2 years ago at biotope (it was in Gakugeidaigaku then but now moved) which Hanna had with another amazing illustrator Hana Akiyama called "Hana to Hanna". Though I didn't get to meet Hanna then, I had been a fan of her works since so I was very happy to meet up with her and Jukka whom we'd known each other on instagram! We had a nice lunch at my favourite cafe ikanika.

Hanna brought me a treat from Finland, the cute packaged lollies AND one of her gorgeous prints AND a set of beautiful post cards!! How lucky am I??? I had also bought this sweet tea towel of Hanna's from NAPA books, which I LOVE!

The light leak is really disappointing from this latest roll of film but oh well.... These photos are from a new cafe in Nakameguro. It's so lovely and I love every detail about the space, all so beautiful... Another great thing is that they are open for breakfast from 9am, while most cafes open from 11 or 12pm! You'd think you have come to a countryside of France while sitting at the table drinking fresh herb tea - yes it's called La vie a la campagne :)

It has now been long enough to be settled well into the new neighbourhood. I am now in the Meguro area, having Gakugeidaigaku, Yutenji and Musashikoyama within easy walking distance, also having Meguro and Nakameguro pretty close by. Although I've been pretty familiar with this area for a long time and I had lived in Toritsudaigaku (which is next to Gakugeidaigaku) when I was in junior school, it is really different from where I had lived before in many ways and the area feels quite different living in it.

There are many lovely shops all dotted around. There are lots more of course but here are some of my favourites shown in the above photos:

1&2: great bonsai shop sadly now closed :(
3,4&5: keats cafe - recommended for vegetarians! (also for non-vegetarians)
6&7: digawel - great little shop for men&womens clothing
8: one of many cute little shop continuously found along Meguro-dori street which is known as "interior shop street"
9: boiserie - very French gallery shop by orne de feuilles
10: trasparente - my fave bakery (they make really good baguettes!)

I just had another roll of film developed, which I had kind of forgotten about so these were taken a few months ago but I thought I'd share as a quick mini Tokyo guide. These are all from the area of Aoyama/Gaienmae, all very close by so you can visit all in an hour or two, all very lovely.

1&2: mina perhonen piece - just....love it!!
3: Watarium Museum - small but hosts many great exhibitions, also has a great little museum shop on the ground floor and a cafe downstairs.
4-7: Keith Haring & Barry McGee-created graffiti opposite the Watarium museum - excellent!!
8-10: Pan to Espresso to. - A cute little cafe that serves good coffee and panini.

How to get to Aoyama/Gaienmae: The closest station to this area is Gaienmae on Ginza line (exit 3) but you can easily walk to/from Omotesando.
