good bye shibuya plathome

shibuya station
Tomorrow, Shibuya station on Toyoko Line will close for good. Toyoko Line will be connected with the Tokyo Metro Fuku-Toshin Line so the platform will move underground and all of what you see in above photos will be gone.

Toyoko Line has always been a "home line" for me all my life, my school was in the Shibuya neighbourhood so there were times I used this station every day. And of course I use it whenever I travel further from here to change to other lines. I never really thought of it this way but this station has been a big part of my life almost! It's kind of sad not to see this anymore, not that it was beautiful or that there was anything that attracted me, but I found 3 photos of this station I have taken in the past so I thought I'd do a farewell post to the Shibuya station.

Sayonara & Arigatou.

P.S. Another thing I will miss when it's gone is the Google Reader!! What will I do now????

P.P.S. It may have been a little confusing, but it's only the Toyoko Shibuya station that will close, and the rest such as JR and Odakyu stations in Shibuya will stay. So Hachiko will also stay!

  1. Oh that's a shame. I have fond memories getting off that platform from Yokohama when I was on exchange in Japan.
But the Tokyu Toyoko sen is still running? the only difference is that you get off at a different platform (i.e. Fuku-Toshin Line)? Thanks for the update - I'll be in Tokyo next Fri and it's helpful to know :)

    1. Yes Toyoko sen will still be running! It will go underground from somewhere around Daikanyama and so the platform will be in the deep down 5 floors down from the ground level! If you have time please do come by my shop that is open on the weekend!! :)

  3. It's always so strange whenever things like that change, things that have seemed to have been there forever. I'm sure you'll get used to it in a while though. But still, I liked your little tribute:)

  4. That's a shame. Hopefully the new underground will be good.

As for Google reader shutting down - maybe take a look into bloglovin'? I've used it for over a year now and like it a lot.

  6. Isn't Shibuya Station where they have the Hachiko statue? I hope they're going to keep him.

    1. Shibuya station is huge and it actually has different station for different train lines and this one that is closing is only for one line so the entire Shibuya station will remain. So yes, of course the Hachiko statue will also stay! :)

  7. Oh that is sad, it's almost like you grew up there!
What will happen to the station once it closes? Is it torn down? or does it remain empty?

    1. I think eventually they will tear it down but I heard that it will be used for a temporary event/exhibition space which could be interesting! ;)

  11. Soooo bummed!!! That's the line whenever I stay in Tokyo I like to travel on. My station was the Nakameguro stop. As far as google reader, Feedly is nicely design and I use on my iphone they made a desktop version and you can tranfer to them just by signing on before July when google reader goes down and it will be a seamless transition. It has a lovelier design than google reader too.

    1. I used the new Shibuya station on Toyoko line yesterday for the first time, it certainly does feel strange going down so deep to get on my line! Shibuya has been changing a lot especially around the station, a bit sad to see it all changes...
And yes I am trying Feedly now, will get used to it soon.
