PERMANENT Issue 1

PERMANENT is one of the most beautiful printed matters I've come across recently.
They talk about food and dining culture, thinking from everyday dining scenes and focus on things like how and where what we eat are made or produced and who are involved behind it. Stories based on interviews with the food producers, tea makers and coffee roasters, and ordinary family homes with great photographs, incredible smiles of just some ordinary people in the small Japanese towns of Kyushu, it's all so good. All beautifully told with wonderful captures of real lives, nothing is styled but it's all real and beautiful. It makes me learn, think and smile (and hungry). It is all so inspiring!

They also make some excellent movies connected with contents of each issue. Here are some that I especially like, hope you enjoy them too!

TOKADO COFFEE - "The Roasting" version. From PERMANENT no.2

Lunch Time in Toho Village. From PERMANENT no.1

Breakfast in Kumamoto City. From PERMANENT no.2

You can see all the other amazing movies here.
And you can order your copy from my shop, both issues have just been restocked!

Oh, and Kinfolk has just launched the first issue of their Japan Edition! I haven't seen it yet but wonder what it's like to read Kinfolk in Japanese!

PERMANENT website (Japanese only)

So enjoying the latest issues of ku:nel and the new ku:nel wear. ku:nel vol.61 features two of my favourite creative people, Peter Ivy the glassware artist and Ms Yoko Omori, one of the top Japanese fashion stylist - I have lucky enough to have met her in person but she. is. sooooooo. lovely!
Both available here.

This made me smile this week: Beautiful Zine by Mary.

Six Ten is a series of photographs taken by the author during her stay at the Cité Radieuse in Marseille, France.

48 pg, 13.5 x 18 cm, b/w risograph, staple bound
23.5 x 34.5 cm insert, b/w risograph, folded
numbered edition of 50, 2013.

Check out Mary's new booklet by Booklet Press of Tokyo.
I also sell Mary's beautiful photography post card set in my Tokyo store, which will be available for purchase online soon!

Have you already heard about the new Tokyo guide zine by Hello Sandwich? If not you are lucky now that you have! Have you already placed your order? If you have you are wise and if you have not I recommend you do now to secure a copy because they are selling so fast already only a few days after being launched! I of course have made my purchase, and I can not wait to have it in my hands in March! Her first Tokyo Guide (which is still available in PDF version) was filled with so much fun and useful information with cute Tokyo shops and cafes of kawaii Hello Sandwich picks, but this new one will be even better being made after the lovely author Ebony living in Tokyo for 2 years! So exciting! My shop unfortunately is not included - too bad, zannen!

You can order your copy of HELLO SANDWICH TOKYO GUIDE here at Hello Sandwich Shop

In love with the new seasonal book by mina perhonen - s w o o n ! !

All above images are from peterivy.com

I was totally struck on the amazing work by Peter Ivy, an American glass artist who works and produces extraordinary glassware in his studio in Japan's Toyama prefecture, when coming across a feature in the latest issue of the Japanese interior magazine Casa Brutus. The most beautiful glass jars I have ever seen, so exquisite and perfect.

The latest seasonal book from minä perhonen 紋黄蝶 "we", apparently the 10th issue this season it's more like a company or brand's introduction book rather than a collection book. It shows scenes from their new collection making process at factories and their important craftspeople and artisans who are behind this extraordinary Japanese fashion brand minä perhonen with beautiful black and white photography by L.A.TOMARI along with some new items from the spring/summer 2012 collection.

So so beautifully made, just as everything else they produce, from their textiles, garments, accessories, shop spaces, printed matter.... I can not love more about every tiniest detail of their creations!

P.S. If you like mina perhonen, do check out the current issue of ku:nel magazine!
