Old and beautiful things, houses and architecture always attract me so much. If it is hidden away on a narrow backstreet it's perfect.

Kawai Kanjiro is a Japanese master potter, sculptor, calligrapher, designer, poet and writer who is also known as a key figure in the Mingei (Japanese folk art) movement in the 1920s. In the Kawai Kanjiro's House, which is Kanjiro's home made into a museum, it shows the incredible beauty that he lived with. The garden, a little tea room and a big kiln at the back are all inside this wonderful gem of a place and I was deeply struck with admiration... Could easily spend the whole afternoon here but the cold January weather (of Kyoto!) and the lack of time helped us end our exploration.

On Sunday I went to the Patricia Curtan exhibition started last weekend at AT THE CORNER in Aoyama, a small gallery space run by Arts & Science. I was familiar with Patricia Curtan's works since she had worked closely with my very favourite restaurant in California, Chez Panisse. A good collection of her drawings and prints are exhibited as well as some beautiful items made in collaboration with dosa and A&S. I brought home these letterpress post cards, I really liked the tea towels too, still thinking about them...mmm should I go back.

It's on till 8th June. Exhibition info here --> Patricia Curtan with dosa

Some photos from the exhibition "VIEW POINT" by Aiko Fukawa at Gallery Speak For in Daikanyama. I got to go see it on the very last day back in February, I meant to post this a lot earlier but anyway....

Aiko Fukawa is a lovely Tokyo based illustrator who does client works for magazines, books, advertisement and more. She also has her own stationery brand called "ai," which I stock in my shop for some time now. You may recognise the lovely squirrel seen in the first photo above, Aiko has turned it into a really sweet cut-out card. It was so nice to see the original art work of this card at her exhibition as well as to finally meet the lovely Aiko in person :)

If you like, you can see the lovely collection of Aiko's paper items at UGUiSU here.
And check out her wonderful works here on her website.

Good news is that Aiko will be having an exhibition in Melbourne later this year so if you are in Melbourne you should check it out. I will let you know of the details when I have it!

Happy May to you all!

I was totally struck on the amazing work by Peter Ivy, an American glass artist who works and produces extraordinary glassware in his studio in Japan's Toyama prefecture, when coming across a feature in the latest issue of the Japanese interior magazine Casa Brutus. The most beautiful glass jars I have ever seen, so exquisite and perfect.
