ha-ko-buApparently they call motorbikes "honda", it doesn't matter if it's yamaha, kawasaki, suzuki or vespa, they are all honda in Vietnam. And they are EVERYWHERE, and EVERYONE is on it including babies and live chikens. Sometimes you see a whole family riding on one bike, father, mother and two kids squashed together. Crossing the streets was a real hassle, I thought I wouldn't be able to come home alive at the beginning but hey I got the hang of it and became so good at it in the end. Never panic or run but be calm, put your chin up and walk slowly passing the honda one by one. That was the trick I learned.

It seemed as though there are no rules on the streets (I even saw a honda driving the wrong way on the highway), but when it comes to parking they were so neat that it got me surprised. There are so so many bicycles parked on the streets in Japan, but often they are terrible. Getting better these days, but still they beat us.

In the Hanoi's old quarter so called "The 36 Streets", everything is there, so full of life. We got lost and probably walked around most of the streets. It was fun just looking at all the things that were sold there. People didn't seem so keen on selling things, it seemed they'd rather keep napping than being woken up and do business. It saved me from over-shopping.

Eating xiao long bao (i looooove them!), taking a foot massage (Taiwanese style is the best!), and having great Taiwanese dinner were about all we did. I wanted to go visit o l y at the cafe she works, and also to one of the famous night markets but it started to rain so heavily we gave them up. Taiwanese people were amazingly nice we were greeted with great smiles everywhere we went and I was surprised to see how different things were from mainland China. I will definately go back there for a good exploration! Thank you Taipei.

little girls in hanoiI'm back in Tokyo, back online, home, exhausted, relieved. I was so touched by the warmth of people in Taipei, and Hanoi was different from what I expected (what was I expecting?), but the food was great and it surely was an interesting place. I now need to do some studies about the country to sort out all the question marks that kept popping up on my head.

From now on, you will be seeing lots of photos from Vietnam (only some from Taiwan), so be ready!
So I'm off to Taiwan and Vietnam in the morning for a late-summer-mini-vacation! It's close to 1AM I should be in bed as I will have to leave home at 6AM but I have got to finish packing. Oh I hate packing, but I have no choice. I really should not be blogging now...

As for my shop, orders can be placed but they won't be processed until early next week. I actually have quite a few new things which I need to add to the shop, but that will have to wait.

So, I will see you back here next week with lots of photos (mostly of food)! Have a great start of September to you all!
