I haven't visited my own blog for so long, and why does it happen when I have deadlines for some work submissions coming up that I finally post something. It seems to be the way it is.

I stopped having "new years resolutions" but still, I will try to go back to the basics, all things I used to really enjoy - photography and movies. New roll of film loaded as soon as 2017 started. Already seen 6 movies. Feeling inspired. So far so good.

Photos are from the beautiful Happoen garden in Meguro/Shirokanedai. Peaceful place if you go on the day when they do not have 30 weddings a day(!)

kyoto in winter

Random shots of Kyoto from our January trip (finally). We were told that it was the most quiet time of the year in Kyoto when we visited, it was very cold, but it was so good. It's Kyoto afterall, how can it be not good? It was perfect.

We have had two snowy weekends in a row, heaviest snowfalls I've ever seen in Tokyo. When it first started to snow last weekend I was remembering how it used to snow so much in my childhood days in Tokyo but it's gotten quite rare to get such heavy snowfalls for many years. But then these two snow storms brought so much more snowfalls than what I can ever remember!

When it snows it's so pretty and exciting, I love how it gets all white and really quiet it's magical. We have to shovel snow and it's quite a hard work but even that can be fun, well but not so much for the second time in one season.

We are very lucky in Tokyo that we only get one or two days like this in one winter so that all or most of it can be just fun and excitement for many of us, but this time it has gotten quite serious in the Yamanashi prefecture and it is a huge worry. With this weekend's heavy snow over 1 metre trains are stopped and roads are blocked leaving many towns and villages isolated throughout Yamanashi. Some people are even locked inside their houses because snow is covering all the windows and doors and they can't get out. So many people are locked in their vehicles for almost 2 days now. How scary could that be....

I hope things will be sorted out as soon as possible and that the damages will be kept at minimum. Sending love and thoughts to people in Yamanashi and other areas that is affected with the unexpected snow storm.
Recently, on instagram - February

Although I see many signs of Spring approaching here and there it makes me wonder if such a thing will really arrive. I know it will but it feels so far away. February has been fun though. Birthday, good food, friends gatherings, winter picnic (had an awesome afternoon with Ebo-chan!)... lots of laughs and happy moments. I guess I should enjoy what's left of winter because it will be gone and I will probably miss it, winter lights and shadows especially. Will try.

Hope your February has been fun too.

Earlier this morning we had little more snow in Tokyo, it's been a really cold winter. Nothing is left on ground any more though, sipping tea and looking at the beautiful clear blue sky up there out the window on Monday morning - very nice.

I had a really delicious & fun weekend, on Saturday I was invited to "let's open the miso crock feast" where we opened a miso crock which had been let sit down under the sink for a whole year in the host's kitchen. I had never seen the miso crock, or never had real homemade miso that fresh right out of the crock before - it. was. amazing! We had really good sake from Toyama while tasting the fresh miso with beautifully cooked meals it was all very delicious. (followed by more sake + good food on Sunday)

How was your weekend? I hope you had a great one and keeping warm! My feet are kept nice and warm with my new room socks I got from mieke willems :)

Happy Monday to all!
