It's raining all day today, which means almost all sakura blossoms will be gone. It always feels sad when the sakura season comes to an end after only about 10 days or so but I was lucky enough to be able to enjoy this year's sakura as much as I wanted to. Although sakura came in full bloom so fast, they seem to have stayed longer.

One weekend morning, I left home early and stopped by at Yutenji temple before I went to my shoppe. I had discovered it the night before while walking home, although I always pass by this temple I never realised that all these trees here were sakura trees. It was all too dark to photograph at night, but oh it was so breathtakingly beautiful seeing so many sakura in the darkness! Everywhere it's often lit up at night time where you can see many sakura blossoms but here they only have little foot lights along the main path to the temple from the gate. It was incredibly beautiful in the day light also, but that sakura in the dark were just gorgeous!

I hope you won't mind me doing a couple more posts on sakura here!

I can't believe how quickly sakura came into full bloom this year, they started to pop out about 10 days earlier than usual and once they started to pop out they were in full bloom before I knew it! Sakura blossoms only stay for about a week so I tried to go and see them as much as I can, just around in my neighbourhood. I will share more photos when I get my film developed later.

Sakura shots from previous years are here:
Kamakura, Jiyugaoka & Nakameguro, Nakameguro 2011 (when they didn't put lanterns because of the Fukushima incident), Jiyugaoka & Yagumo (Meguro), Kuhombutsu (Jiyugaoka), Denenchofu & Jiyugaoka, Denenchofu 2010, etc, etc...

I hope Spring is bringing you many little happy moments like it is to me.

P.S. I didn't realise but my blog turned 4 this March!! Wow!

Just as I thought I would have to let this year's sakura season go without fully enjoying it as I had been frustratingly too busy (plus I had to cancel a Hana-mi picnic party due to catching a cold, boo), I was so lucky and had a chance to go to a client meeting near Kamakura which is my favourite day-trip destination and one of the most popular areas to go see sakura near Tokyo. My client was so kind and drove me to the entrance of this most beautiful sakura filled hiking route of Kamakura-yama hill after the meeting. I had never been as far as Kamakura-yama but oh what an amazing place it was with beautiful streets, gorgeous views, and all the lovely houses! - reminded me of Sausalito. It is now my dream place to live, but I imagine you would have to be a millionaire to have a house in that exclusive area. When I walked down reaching the Kamakura Hase area, even though this has always been my favourite area it looked not so attractive to me any more, could be because there were so many people everywhere. But I really recommend you travelling further up to Kamakura-yama if you go to Kamakura, it is known as a great hiking spot and I think you can take a bus from Kamakura station.

Anyway, so I got to enjoy the last bit of this year's sakura in kind of a special way. It's sad that sakura blossoms only last for a couple of weeks, but that is why we can cherish it tremendously.

Happy Spring to you all!

This year's sakura season is over now but oh it was so beautiful. These are mainly from Jiyugaoka and Nakameguro, daily scenes turning all so incredibly stunning. This is the time I feel most happy to be in Japan than any time else every year and I hope you know what I mean :)

Lots have been happening in the past month, cold winter has been replaced by happy spring and now we are having the sakura season in Tokyo. My niece Ako was around for a week from Sendai and we had lots of fun together. Also we have moved house and it's been a huge hustle that I thought I wouldn't be able to enjoy sakura this year but I think I did pretty well in the end :) I have taken many photos so I will share them here soon!

Sakura Walk in Nakameguro

Normally the streets along the canal here in Nakameguro have lanterns and it gets all lit up in the evening, but this year like everywhere else in Tokyo no light-ups had been held to save electricity for the concern of unexpected power shortage due to the temporary shutting down of the nuclear power plants in Fukushima. But that was no big deal, without lanterns I think it looked all white and extra beautiful. It would actually and probably (or hopefully) be the only year I could photograph the sakura here looking like these without lanterns in sight. (You can see what it normally looks like here in my old post.)

Sakura was all over the place, up in the sky, down on the ground, in the reflections and in the shadows, fallen petals even in my hands. Looking at people having great time, smiling, made me smile (half crying) I must have looked insane but I will remember this year's sakura as a very special memory and I hope you enjoyed my sakura photos! :)

I'm a bit behind I know, the petals have already all fallen and it's all green with young leaves by now. I know they'd all look the same, every year I get so many photos that look almost the same, but it's just too hard to stop photographing! But oh what a beauty it all was. What a comfort it all has been!

The world is so beautiful, that is why we have to take a good care of it.
I hope for the better tomorrow.
